Srinagar, Feb 6: Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani Thursday asked media persons to seek answers from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha over the recent civilian killings.

Talking to media persons, Wani condemned the killings of civilians and said the LG’s administration should be made answerable for these killings.

“You all know that when there is any security review meeting or security-related matters, the elected government is not taken into confidence. When there was a meeting in Delhi yesterday, the CM was not invited,” Wani told media persons.

He said that the elected government does not know about the ground facts and briefings done in security-related meetings as the elected CM is not taken on board on such matters.

“This is one of the main reasons why we say that the Government of India should restore statehood which will lead to a uniform action on all these things,” the CM’s Advisor said.

He said that the elected government was answerable only if the situation would have been in its control.

“When we are not involved in this matter, nor are we involved in decision-making and in implementing security-related decisions on the ground then what should we answer for,” Wani said.

He reiterated that J&K should get the status of the state, which he said was “very important” citing that restoration of the statehood was not for personal benefits of any party.

“Due to these circumstances, we ask for decision-making in one place,” the CM’s Advisor said.

“On the one hand, people who were claiming that the situation has calmed down, everything is fine, and on the other hand we see the situation on the ground,” he said.

Wani said that such matters would not be resolved by alienating people.

“The elected government does not alienate people but tries to unite people. We have always tried to unite people when the CM was in power earlier,” he said.

The CM’s Advisor said that people should get the treatment they deserve and anyone who is involved in such incidents (killings) should be held accountable.

“Even today, the government has decided to conduct a ministerial inquiry on these incidents. We will go to the best of our ability. We will find out the culprits,” he said referring to the death of a civilian in Billawar, Kathua.

Wani said that the CM of J&K was elected and not a selected person picked from outside the state and offered a chair here.

“The CM has got a full mandate of the people and we have the responsibility of the people. Unfortunately, we can’t give an answer for a situation in which we do not have any control,” he said.

Reacting to the arrest spree in Kulgam, the CM’s Advisor said that arresting people and alienating them would not solve issues.

“It should not look like we are covering up and putting people in trouble for no reason," he said.
