Srinagar, Oct 27: ASHA Workers Union Kashmir held its 5th conference at Srinagar on Monday.

In her inaugural address, Veena Gupta, leader ASHA Workers Federation of India emphasised that the plight of the ASHA workers can be minimised and addressed through persistent struggle on the issues of the workers on ground for which it is imperative to strengthens the organisation. This can be done by enrolling the larger sections of the ASHA workers in the fold and continue its fight on ground on the demands of the union.

CITU president and CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami said that despite being the backbone in performing their duties and responsibilities especially in case of antenatal ladies, ASHA workers continue to be denied fair wages and social security benefits. He said that the recommendations of the 45th Indian Labour Conference regarding payment of wages and other social security measures must be implemented in letter and spirit.
