Aryans College of Law inaugurates Moot Court Society
Srinagar, Oct 9: Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, near Chandigarh, inaugurated its Moot Court Society.
The ceremony, held on the Aryans campus, was attended by Dr Shipra Gupta, Professor, Department of Law at Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Dr. Ivneet Walia, Associate Professor at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. Dr. Devender Singla, Principal of Aryans College of Law, was also present. Aryans law students, including BA LLB and LLB students, attended the ceremony. The event commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony followed by a curtain-raising to inaugurate the society.
Dr. Shipra mentioned that moot courts have been an integral part of the legal curriculum in Indian universities since 1985. A moot court is a form of legal education that involves researching, writing, and presenting oral arguments on a given legal issue or problem. The term "moot" means "open to discussion," reflecting the fact that moot court cases are usually based on unsettled or controversial areas of law. Moot court cases can cover any branch of law, such as constitutional law, international law, criminal law, and human rights law.
Dr. Walia, while addressing the audience, stated that the purpose of moot court is to train law students for their future careers by providing a realistic legal environment to develop and practice skills. Moot court competitions help students enhance skills such as legal research, writing, and oral advocacy, allowing them to build confidence in presenting their arguments before judges and peers. Moot court is not only a co-curricular activity but also a valuable learning experience for law students, he added.
The student committee was announced, including President Adarsh Jha, Vice Presidents Muskan and Nishu, Social Media Heads Himanshu and Jasagam, and Promotion Heads Nitin and Arjit. Student Coordinators include Mansi, Naresh, Gurparvinder Kaur, Mohd. Hussain, Rajat, Priksha, Deepak, and Mohd. Majid Khan, who was presented with sashes and badges.
