Article 370 abrogation has not led to lasting peace: J&K Peace Forum
Srinagar, Nov 5: Satish Mahaldar of J&K Peace Forum today said that the abrogation of Article 370 has not led to lasting peace or economic stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement he said, “Instead, it has exacerbated divisions, with many fearing that the region's cultural and economic identity is being undermined. Special provisions should be made to safeguard the interests of the backward regions, protect the cultural heritage, and ensure the economic upliftment of the local population. More importantly, efforts should be made to address the security concerns and restore law and order, which remain fragile in certain areas of the state.”
He added that, “we must also acknowledge the need to protect the rights of minorities, who feel increasingly vulnerable in the post-abrogation scenario.” Mahaldar said the special status that Jammu and Kashmir once enjoyed was a safeguard for its distinct demographic and cultural identity, which now seems to be at risk.
