Poonch, May 20: Indian Army has launched a massive rescue operation in Poonch's Mendhar border sub division to extend helping hand to the affected families in cross border shelling, a press release said.

Army said that in the aftermath of recent ceasefire violations and cross-border shelling in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district, the Indian Army’s launched a comprehensive door-to-door humanitarian relief operation to support affected civilians in border villages.  Reaffirming its commitment to national service beyond the battlefield, Army personnel provided essential aid including food supplies, medicines, and medical assistance to families impacted by the disruption, said army. Despite challenging terrain and the persistent threat of further hostilities, troops reached remote hamlets situated perilously close to the Line of Control (LoC), army further said.

The relief mission, conducted in coordination with the local civil administration, also encompassed health check-ups and psychological support particularly for the elderly, women, and children, army stated.

Army medical teams ensured timely care for the injured and vulnerable, offering both treatment and comfort, it said.

Each household was personally visited by uniformed soldiers, who delivered not only supplies but also reassurance and compassion. Their presence brought a sense of safety and solidarity to communities living under stress. This initiative is part of the Army’s broader effort to assist civilians in conflict affected regions across Jammu and Kashmir.

Temporary medical camps have been established, and sustained monitoring of affected families is underway to ensure ongoing support.
