Kupwara, Feb 17: Army’s Vajr Division Saturday organised Awami Milap in Drugmulla area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district with an aim to provide a platform for people of Drugmulla block to resolve their administrative problems.

General Officer Commanding, 28 Infantry Division, Girish Kalia was the chief guest on the occasion. The people of the area put forth their day-to-day problems before the officials of concerned departments and sought immediate redressal of their issues. District Development Council Member Drugmulla Advocate Amina Majeed also remained present in the programme.

GOC Girish Kalia during his speech impressed upon all stakeholders to work towards betterment and everlasting peace in the society.

“I am happy to see a close bond between the locals of Drugmulla and the Army. Every citizen of the country has to play a role in the development of the country. Drug addiction has really been a concern for society and we all need to rise to the occasion to eradicate drug menace from society,” GOC said.

Meanwhile Army in a statement said, “The Kupwara based Vajr Division as part of ongoing Operation Sadbhavana to bridge the gap between military and civilian communities organised a unique gathering which provided a platform for the Awaam of Drugmulla block to resolve their administrative problems and issues. The local people also shared their concerns with the General Officer Commanding, 28 Infantry Division and other officers and suggested how the environment can be made conducive for peace in J&K”.

“A total of 90 individuals attended the event which served as a platform for the population of the Drugmulla block to voice their concerns with civil administration and Army, share their experiences and obtain solutions to the problems and areas of concern,” the statement said.

“The Army and civil officers listened to the concerns of civilians and gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by communities, while civilians expressed a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of the Indian Army. The event was also attended by Sarpanch, ward members, teachers and Imams. By fostering open communication and mutual understanding, the aim was to cultivate stronger bonds between military, influential gentry and civilian populations of Drugmulla block and address issues that affect the Awaam,” reads the statement.

The Kupwara based Vajr Division expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “We believe in collaboration between military and civilian life. By facilitating meaningful conversations between soldiers and civilians, we can break down barriers, dispel misconceptions, and build bridges of empathy and cooperation”.
