Kupwara, Oct 23: The Army on Wednesday commemorated the local soldier who lost his life in the line of duty.

The Army inaugurated the bust of Rifleman Bashir Ahmad Lone at Government Higher Secondary School Drugmulla to honour him.

The event was attended by Commander Vajr Artillery Brigade and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara Aayushi Sudan was the chief guest.

Meanwhile, the Army in a statement said, “In a solemn and heartfelt ceremony, Indian Army commemorated the bravery and sacrifice of local Rifleman Bashir Ahmad Lone with the inauguration of a bust in his honour.”

The statement said that the chief guest unveiled the bust of Lone and paid tribute to his valour and dedication.

“A moment of silence was observed to honour the memory of the fallen hero,” the Army statement said.

It said that the chief guest, in a touching gesture, felicitated the Next of Kin (NoK) of Lone.

The DC in her address highlighted the contribution of Lone and encouraged others to follow him.

Sudan highlighted the Indian Army’s role in nation-building and the fight against substance abuse in Jammu Kashmir, the value of education for students, and the importance of striving for excellence.

As part of the event, the Indian Army and DC Kupwara also distributed school bags and stationery among the students and encouraged them to pursue their studies with diligence and dedication and to imbibe patriotism.

“This event was a testament to the spirit of gratitude and respect for those who have laid down their lives in service to the nation. The Indian Army remains committed to protecting the nation from internal and external threats, honouring such sacrifices, and inspiring students to follow the path of courage and dedication,” the statement said.
