Are they really watchdogs ?
Few days ago I watched a video on social media in which the American Air Force was airdropping food items and probably some other essentials on the people of Gaza who, especially their children, are dying of hunger and unavailability of other essentials.
The airdropping on the one hand provided some relief to the people but on the other it killed some people especially the children who are unfortunately very vulnerable to such situations.
I, like many other humans could not stop my tears on seeing such scenes which would melt even the stone hearted people. The scenes of collecting the eatables from the dust and the mud by the Palestinian children still haunt me and I hardly am able to sleep since then.
Most of the time I involuntarily visualise the scene and other scenes from Palestinian people especially of the hungry children, amputated bodies of the people, devastated buildings and hospitals, overcrowded graveyards and cemeteries, desolated streets and deserted roads, cries and invoking of helpless people which make me restless.
Then I consoles my painful heart thinking this too shall pass. But I wonder where are the international organisations, associations and forums which claim to be the watchdogs of the human rights.
The United Nations Organisation, the biggest watchdog of human rights, was founded 1945 after the devastating World War II in order to uphold the principles of peace and justice throughout the globe which is mentioned in its Charter:
WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED
To save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and
To reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
To establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and
To promote social progress and better standards of life in large freedom
And thereafter many other international organizations came into being to facilitate the work of the UN but unfortunately such organizations are just puppets and hostages to some powerful nations which somehow monitor and control their work.
These organizations, day in and day out, direct, rather request the powerful blocs to restrain from such and such actions only to do lip service and get noticed in the international arena. In reality they are being tamed and dictated bit by bit by the ‘super powers’.
I wonder, is not there any single nation amongst almost two hundred nations which could literally raise its genuine voice against the brutal human rights violations perpetuated by one of the smallest nations.
Are the nations so indebted to Israel that they are fearful of not getting some ‘bucks’ from it and its partners if they open up their mouth? Are the nations so much controlled by the international lobbyism that they prefer to be just mere spectators? Has the economy of Israel surpassed the cumulative economies of these nations? If the answers to the above questions are in affirmative, then the United Nations Organizations and its allied associations and forums should introspect and rethink their principles and strategies.
To conclude, I would request the international community, to please join your hands and raise the voice for the voiceless unanimously irrespective of individual identities to pressurize these international ‘watchdogs’ in order to save the people of Palestine.
