Are contesting candidates really from banned JeI: Mehbooba
Shopian, Sep 11: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti today said the former leaders of banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) must clarify to people that whether the candidates contesting elections in the name of their banned organisation really belonged to it or not.
She was talking to media persons in Shopian. Mehbooba said that PDP was in favour of lifting the ban on the Jamaat so that they could participate in the electoral process.
Earlier ,while addressing a poll rally near Gole Chowk, the PDP president criticised the National Conference for rigging the 1987 elections. “ In 1987 polls, people decided to cast their ballots in favour of MUF, but they rigged the polls, which led to the filling of graveyards”, she said.
Mehbooba said that she made relentless efforts for unity as there were many challenges. “ But unfortunately they said that PDP does not exist”, she said. She said that her party wants to form the government for not merely constructing streets. “ We want to free our youth from the raids of agencies,”she said.
PDP President said that the graph of unemployment had shot up significantly over the last few years in Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to the recent scuffle between the PDP and AIP workers, Mehbooba said that she knew Balpora (the village of AIP candidates) and the candidate. “He did it only because he has New Delhi’s backing”, she said. Mehbooba appealed to the voters to send their candidates to the assembly.
