Appointment of VC BGSBU: Final panel submitted to Chancellor

Srinagar, Mar 1: The process for the appointment of new Vice Chancellor (VC) for Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri is in its final stage as the search committee has submitted the panel to the Chancellor of J&K Universities for his approval.

The hunt for the appointment of new VC for BGSBU began on January 1 of this year after the J&K government constituted the search committee to draw the panel of candidates for the appointment of new VC for the University.

The process for appointment of VC BGSBU was operated through Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) as the notification issued for inviting applications for the post of VC BGSBU was issued by the Registrar SMVDU.

A top official told Greater Kashmir that the interaction of the shortlisted candidates with the search committee was held on February 18 in New Delhi following which the final panel of candidates was submitted to the J&K Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha who is also the Chancellor of the J&K Universities.

"The panel can be of three to five candidates. The order is expected in the coming days," the official said.

Besides the appointment of the new VC for BGSBU Rajouri, the process for the appointment of the new VC for Cluster University (CU) Jammu is also under process.

A top official told Greater Kashmir that the interaction of the shortlisted candidates was held on February 7 or February 8 with the search committee. The official said the search committee constituted to draw a panel of names for the appointment of VC BGSBU was headed by Vice Chancellor Central University of Gujarat.

This newspaper on October 20 of 2023 reported that the three-year term of VCs at three universities in Jammu and Kashmir, including Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Cluster University Srinagar (CUS), and Cluster University Jammu (CUJ), is nearing end and time was ripe for the J&K government to initiate selection process in advance.

The J&K government appointed Prof Akbar Masood as the VC BGSBU Rajouri on February 13 of 2021 for a three-year term. His term expired in February 2024.

Also, Professor Bechan Lal was appointed as the VC CU Jammu on January 25, 2021, for a three-year term while Professor (Dr) Qayyum Husain was appointed VC Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) on April 1 of 2021 for a three-year term.
