G H Mir expressed his disappointment over the way Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the martyrs' graveyard a day after Martyrs’ Day.

“We condemn the way the Police tried to stop CM Omar at the graveyard, but he too should not have gone there this way. He should have done so with the dignity befitting the office of the CM, accompanied by divisional and district-level administrative officers,” he said.

On the government’s failures to deliver good governance, G H Mir said, “The ruling party has not only failed to provide effective governance, but its inability to fulfil its promises has also become evident, even after nine months in power. Unfortunately, the BJP has also failed to play its role as an opposition party. It appears that both the ruling and opposition parties are hand in glove with each other. Neither seems concerned about the pressing issues and grievances of the public.”

Senior Apni Party leader and chairman of the party’s Parliamentary Affairs Committee (PAC), Muhammad Dilawar Mir, said that if the government continues to ignore pressing public issues, it would completely lose its credibility.

“During the election campaign, Omar Abdullah removed his cap and pleaded with the people for votes, saying that his honour was in their hands. They respected his appeal and elected him and his party. But what has he done over the past nine months? If this government continues to ignore public issues, it will completely lose its credibility,” he said. “The LG has openly clarified that only the Police are under his authority, while the rest lie under the elected government’s command. Then why doesn’t this government deliver effective governance? Remember, you will lose your government if you do not fulfil your promises, deliver good governance, and address the people’s issues and grievances because in a democratic system, the people are the ultimate masters.”

Dilawar Mir accused the government of punishing its opponents.

He said, “Employees, including casual labourers and Class IV employees, are being transferred from places like Sopore, Rafiabad, and Tangmarg to remote areas like Gurez and Karnah, simply because they did not support the ruling party during the elections. This is how the government is punishing its opponents, even if they are low-ranking employees.”

Addressing the convention, Apni Party’s Provincial President, Muhammad Ashraf Mir, said, “This workers’ meeting is part of a series of conventions aimed at strengthening the party cadre at the grassroots level across all districts.”

He expressed his grave concern over the “growing unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir” and accused the government of failing to make any efforts to address this issue and other problems faced by the people.

Speaking on the occasion, Apni Party Youth Wing President, Yawar Mir, accused the government of failing to address public issues.

“Farmers are suffering as their crops are being destroyed due to the lack of proper irrigation facilities. The government is failing to provide irrigation pumps, which cost only around Rs 5 lakh each, to farmers in various areas, while the same government spends crores on purchasing vehicles for its leaders. This reflects just how pathetic the situation has become,” Yawar said.
