Anantnag, Jan 27: A heartwarming gesture by a police officer in Anantnag to improve pedestrian movement while respecting street vendors’ rights has earned widespread appreciation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Headquarters Anantnag, Muhammad Ayub Rather, accompanied by SHO Sadar Anantnag, Rashid Ahmad was seen in a viral video advising street vendors at Lal Chowk to arrange their carts in an orderly manner.

The aim was to ensure that footpaths remained accessible for pedestrians and traffic movement remained unhindered.

"Please place your carts in a manner that allows pedestrians to use the footpaths without obstruction while ensuring smooth traffic flow," DSP Rather was heard as saying in the video.

The officer reassured the vendors that their right to earn a livelihood would not be compromised and at the same time stressed on the importance of civic sense.

“ The road needs to be kept clear as it leads to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, ensuring that patients and emergency services are not affected.

The officer's approach was lauded by many on social media.
