Amrit stations reflect speed pride, says Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow, May 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated 103 redeveloped railway stations across India under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including 19 in Uttar Pradesh. The nationwide event was held virtually from Bikaner, Rajasthan, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joining the proceedings from Lucknow. Calling the redevelopment drive a symbol of "speed and pride," the Chief Minister hailed the Amrit Bharat stations as a step towards realising the vision of a modern, connected, and culturally rooted "New India."

In a post on X, CM Yogi wrote: “All 103 Amrit Stations across India, including 19 in Uttar Pradesh, dedicated today by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, embody New India’s blend of heritage preservation, development resolve, and the synergy of speed and pride.” He noted that the stations not only feature upgraded infrastructure and passenger-friendly amenities, but also celebrate regional identity and will help spur local development.

The 19 stations redeveloped in Uttar Pradesh include Balrampur, Bareilly City, Bijnor, Fatehabad, Gola Gokarnnath, Govardhan, Govindpuri, Hathras City, Idgah Agra, Izzatnagar, Karchana, Mailani, Pukhrayan, Ramghat Halt, Saharanpur, Siddharthnagar, Suremanpur, Swaminarayan Chhapia, and Ujhani.

These stations have been upgraded with modern facilities such as state-of-the-art waiting rooms, escalators and lifts, digital displays, amenities for the differently-abled, and green energy infrastructure. Each station also integrates elements of local architecture and culture. “The redeveloped Amrit Stations reflect the vision of a New India, where modern amenities, cutting-edge technology, and cultural pride advance together,” the Chief Minister said in a follow-up post. “They will boost regional development, tourism, and business opportunities.” He also extended his “heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for these Amrit Stations that provide passengers with an accessible and soulful travel experience.”

Developed at a combined cost of over ₹1,100 crore, the 103 Amrit Stations span 86 districts in 18 states and Union Territories. Under the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, more than 1,300 railway stations across the country are being redeveloped to enhance passenger convenience and reflect local heritage. In a notable shift, small and medium stations, often neglected in the past, are receiving unprecedented attention. In 2023–24 alone, foundation stones were laid for the redevelopment of 1,062 stations. Over the next eight months, 100 more stations are expected to be ready, with 500 slated for completion by 2027.
