Amit Sharma charts growth roadmap for cooperative and telecom sectors in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jun 12: Amit Sharma, Secretary to the Government of Mizoram for Cooperation and ICT Departments, held a series of key meetings this week focused on boosting the state's cooperative and telecommunications sectors. The discussions aimed at enhancing grassroots economic activity and improving digital connectivity across the region. As part of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, themed “Cooperatives Build a Better World,” Sharma participated in the Annual General Assembly meetings of two key cooperative institutions—MIZOFED (Mizoram State Cooperative Marketing and Consumers’ Federation Ltd) and the Mizoram Cooperative Apex Bank (MCAB). Both meetings were held in the presence of Mizoram Cooperation Minister P.C. Vanlalruata.

Sharma emphasised the importance of modernising the cooperative ecosystem and outlined a series of reforms, including the establishment of multi-purpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), the adoption of Common Service Centre (CSC) models for delivering e-services, and full automation of cooperative banking operations. The proposals received wide support from board members and stakeholders present.

Key issues discussed included the implementation of the "Call Before You Dig" notification system, accelerating the installation of 4G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) under the saturation scheme in remote areas, and expanding broadband services across the state.
