Amit Shah to chair high-level meet on J&K today
Srinagar, Oct 8: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level security and development review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on Thursday, with a focus on counter-terrorism, winter strategy, post-flood relief, and development.
The meeting will be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, heads of intelligence agencies, and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) CID, Nitish Kumar, among others.
The top-level huddle comes amid recent floods that impacted several areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Highly placed official sources said that the meeting will primarily focus on assessing the prevailing security situation, reviewing ongoing counter-terror operations, and finalising the strategic roadmap for the upcoming winter season.
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah has time and again reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and emphasised the need for seamless coordination between central and state security agencies,” a senior official from security establishments said.
The meeting will involve a comprehensive analysis of recent developments in the security landscape of J&K, including renewed efforts by terror outfits to infiltrate and destabilise J&K.
“The Home Minister will review the current security dynamics in Kashmir, including recent attempts of infiltration. He will call for intensifying intelligence-based operations and ensuring airtight border surveillance,” he said. “The meeting will also discuss the need for proactive winter preparedness, with the Home Minister directing agencies to strengthen infrastructure and logistics for personnel stationed in forward areas. Counter-infiltration grids and enhanced patrolling in high-risk zones are also likely to be increased in view of the upcoming snow season.”
Sources said the importance of coordination between various intelligence and enforcement agencies will be strongly emphasised.
Besides the security overview, the meeting will also address the recent flood fury in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah will be briefed on the extent of damage, relief measures undertaken, and the status of rehabilitation for affected families.
“The Home Minister will likely instruct concerned officials to ensure prompt disbursal of relief to the flood-hit and accelerate rehabilitation works,” another source said. “Development cannot take a back seat. It must go hand-in-hand with our security efforts.”
“Progress on various development initiatives and infrastructure projects will also be reviewed.”
This meeting comes as part of a series of regular reviews by Amit Shah, who has taken a hands-on approach in monitoring J&K’s security and development trajectory.
In previous meetings, the Home Minister emphasised disrupting terror financing, dismantling sleeper cells, and encouraging mainstream engagement among youth.
With winter approaching and security concerns mounting, the government is clearly pushing for a multi-pronged approach, blending aggressive counter-terrorism with robust development and public welfare efforts.
