Amit Shah releases Assamese writer Arup Kumar Dutta’s book

Writer Nasir Azam honoured for translating Dutta’s work in Kashmiri language

Guwahati, Jan 25: The English book ‘Assam’s Braveheart Lachit Barphukan’ by the famous writer and historian of Assam, Arup Kumar Dutta, which has been translated into 24 scheduled Indian languages, was released at a function by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati in the presence of Chief Minister of Assam Hemant Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Ranuj Pegu on Thursday.

A statement issued here said that the book has been translated into Kashmiri by well-known writer, poet, and translator Nisar Azam while the Dogri translation has been done by well-known writer and translator Rajeshwar Singh Raju.

On this occasion, Nisar Azam and other translators were felicitated by the Government of Assam.

The book is based on the life, heroics and times of the Assamese military leader of the 17th century, Lachit Barphukan.

This mega project was coordinated by renowned Assamese writer and film critic Aparajita Pujari and she was also honoured for her zest, zeal, and dedicated efforts.

Commenting on the work, former Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Academy for Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), Rafeeq Masoodi said, “Nisar Azam is a very creative person. He has control of both English and Kashmiri languages. Hence, this transcription will prove an excellent and beautiful addition to the prose treasurer of Kashmiri.”
