Kupwara, Mar 3: The fresh spell of snowfall on Monday across north Kashmir's Kupwara district brought life to standstill while several areas remained cutoff from district headquarters. Heavy snowfall blocked Kupwara-Kalaroose road, leaving local residents stranded and public transport unable to ply on roads. In the midst of these challenging conditions, the Beacon Department rescued a pregnant woman in distress.

With an ambulance from the local hospital unable to reach the remote location due to the heavy snowfall, Beacon personnels stepped in and transported the pregnant woman by covering over 8 kilometers to reach Primary Health Centre (PHC) Kalaroose.

One of the attendants said that the woman developed labour pain early morning following which they sought help from PHC Kalaroose but due to snowfall in the area, vehicles were not plying on the road. "We are thankful to Beacon officials for their prompt and lifesaving intervention who transported the woman to PHC Kalaroose," he added.

Meanwhile, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Kalaroose, Dr Nazir Ahmad told Greater Kashmir that the lady from Sarkoli Kalaroose was brought to the health centre in the afternoon. "The lady has successfully delivered and both mother, child are doing well," he added.
