Amid grievances, officials say lecturer transfers ordered in administration 's interest

Srinagar, Apr 4: Amid the complaints of favouritism, the officials in the School Education Department (SED) on Friday said the transfer and postings of the Lecturers was ordered in the interest of the administration.

On Wednesday, the School Education Department on April 2 ordered transfer and posting of 98 lecturers with "immediate effect" in the "interest of the administration."

Reacting to the transfer order of lecturers, scores of lecturers said that all the transfers and postings were not done on merits saying that some blue eyed lecturers were shifted despite having premature stay.

"One blue eyed lecturer was shifted from a far off area to a soft zone despite having a premature stay. The lecturer was posted in place of a lecturer who already served in a hard zone during the past many years. The lecturer was posted in soft zone less than two years ago and was shifted back to a far off area," a group of lecturers said.

The Lecturers said that some lecturers are being adjusted in offices as per their convenience while scores of lecturer positions remain vacant in schools.

"The primary focus should be to provide a lecturer (subject specific) in schools rather than moving him from one office to another," the lecturers said.

The teaching community urged the department to issue transfers on merits besides considering problems like health and family issues of the employees.

While the education minister Sakina Itoo was not available for her comments on the issue a top officer in the administrative department said the transfer list was issued of few lecturers having health issues.

"The routine transfer and posting order with regard to the lecturers will be issued in near future. The department ordered the transfers and posting in the interest of the administration," the officer said.

He said the officers know whose services are required at which position. "We are moving ahead and everything will be streamlined," the officer said.
