Amazon achieves 10,000 electric vehicles delivery fleet
Srinagar, Dec 11: Amazon has successfully deployed over 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in its India delivery fleet, accomplishing this milestone in October 2024 – more than a year ahead of its original schedule. These vehicles are now operational across 500 cities, spanning from Leh to Gangtok, with primary deliveries concentrated in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
The achievement represents a significant step towards Amazon's Climate Pledge commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 – a decade earlier than the Paris Agreement's timeline. By replacing traditional diesel vehicles, the company is making substantial progress in reducing carbon emissions in India's logistics sector.
Breaking new ground in electric transportation, Amazon is pioneering the testing of long-range electric heavy trucks along the 350-kilometer Bengaluru-Chennai highway through The Climate Pledge's Laneshift Initiative. This collaborative project involves industry leaders including Ashok Leyland, Billion-E, and ChargeZone, exploring the potential of electric freight transportation.
The initiative has not only advanced environmental goals but also created hundreds of new jobs in India through strategic partnerships with delivery service providers, fleet operators, and financial institutions.
"Deploying over 10,000 electric vehicles and successfully testing long-range electric trucks are achievements we're immensely proud of," said Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations at Amazon India. "As a company and a nation, we must transition to zero tailpipe emission trucks to meet India's net-zero goals and reduce diesel freight dependence."
