Jammu, Jul 18: After a day-long suspension, a fresh batch of around 8000 pilgrims embarked on Shri Amarnath Yatra from Jammu based camps at Bhagwati Nagar on Friday.

Officials said that 16th batch of 7908 pilgrims Friday morning left Yatri Niwas – Jammu based camp at Bhagwati Nagar for the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas in heavy security.

As per officials, a total of 5957 males, 1613 females, 26 children, 290 Sadhus and 22 Sadhvis departed from Jammu base camp in a convoy of 261 vehicles, including 170 buses and 69 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) for twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal.

5029 pilgrims, comprising 4198 males, 540 females, 15 children, 263 Sadhus and 13 Sadhvis left for the Pahalgam axis at 4.25 am in a cavalcade of 169 vehicles, including 112 buses and 40 LMVs. 2879 Yatris, including 1759 males, 1073 females, 11 children, 27 Sadhus and 9 Sadhvis opted to embark on Yatra from Baltal axis. They left in a cavalcade of 92 vehicles, including 58 buses and 29 LMVs at 3.30 am.

Yatra, which formally commenced on July 3, 2025 from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes, will conclude on August 9, 2025.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims from Bhagwati Nagar base camp on July 2.

Notably on July 17, no batch was allowed from Yatri Niwas- Jammu based camp at Bhagwati Nagar to proceed to twin Yatra routes to undertake pilgrimage to the holy shrine nestled in South Kashmir Himalayas due to inclement weather prediction and continuing maintenance works on Pahalgam and Baltal tracks. So far, over 2.70 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy shrine.
