Amarnath Yatra 2024 | 48-hour shutdown to be announced to carry out repairs on NH: DC Ramban
Banihal, May 29: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary has stated that 48-hour long dry day (traffic shut down) on Srinagar Jammu National Highway (NH-44), will be observed, in coming days, to carry out repair and maintenance at several places between Nashri and Banihal.
The repairs will be aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow, especially during the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024 and tourist season.
He stated this, after leading the visit of a high-level team, along with DIG Traffic Jammu Dr Haseeb Mughal, to several critical spots along NH-44 between Nashri to Banihal on Tuesday.
DC Ramban also pointed out that 17 critical spots were identified between Nashri and Banihal for urgent repairs.
The high-level team also included Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban, Anuj Kumar; Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic NHW, Ramban Rohit Basotra and officials from NHAI. They visited several critical spots along NH-44 and issued necessary directions to concerned officials to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the strategy to expedite the ongoing construction work on the NH-44 four-laning project, aiming to provide hassle-free road connectivity for Yatris, tourists, passengers, and locals. He informed that blacktopping in the Banihal market would be undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) soon.
DC Ramban said, “We are going to announce a 48-hour long dry day/traffic shut down on NH-44 in coming days to carry out repair and maintenance at several places between Nashri and Banihal, including black topping of highway passing through Banihal town.”
Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner discussed comprehensive security arrangements and emphasised enhancing the staying capacity in Yatri Niwas and shelter sheds.
He assured that the district administration, working as a cohesive team, would ensure all arrangements in place well in time for the Yatra and tourist season.
