AM/NS India launches world-class Optigal Prime in J&K

Srinagar, Sep 24: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has introduced Optigal® Prime, a high-performance, colour-coated steel engineered to stringent European standards, in Jammu and Kashmir. Designed to withstand the region’s extreme cold, prolonged monsoons, and freeze–thaw cycles, the product delivers durability for mountain homes and large-scale infrastructure projects, including airports, railway stations, highways, and other critical developments.

Developed by ArcelorMittal, Optigal® Prime leverages patented technology that provides up to three times the corrosion resistance compared with conventional coatings. The launch strengthens AM/NS India’s position as the sole domestic producer of high-quality C4 specialty steel, a grade previously unavailable in India.

AM/NS India has previously supplied steel for landmark projects in the region, including 100 per cent of the steel for the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest rail bridge, and 70 per cent for the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge.

Optigal® Prime comes with a 15-year warranty and advanced coatings such as Silicon Modified Polyester (SMP), Super Durable Polyester (SDP), and Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF). Its Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium coating ensures long-lasting protection and weather resilience. Six specialised variants – High Gloss, Anti-Dust, Anti-Graffiti, Anti-Static, Anti-Microbial, and Cool Roof – are suitable for roofing, cladding, and other architectural applications.

Manufactured at AM/NS India’s Pune facility, the product aligns with the ‘Make in India’ mission and meets strict sustainability standards, including low volatile organic compounds, absence of heavy metals and hexavalent chromium, and full recyclability. The company currently produces seven lakh tonnes of colour-coated steel annually, with plans to scale up to one million tonnes.
