Srinagar, Nov 13: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday urged the government to take immediate steps to address the growing unemployment crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement Bukhari said, “Media reports suggest that long queues were seen today at the Army recruitment drive in Rangreth, Srinagar. Similarly, over 20,000 young people attended yesterday’s Army recruitment rally in Gantmulla, Baramulla, even though there were only 306 vacancies. These events once again highlight the serious issue of unemployment, which demands urgent attention.”

Expressing concern over the issue and calling for swift and coordinated efforts to tackle it, he stated, “It is deeply troubling to see thousands of educated young people struggling to find livelihood opportunities. Addressing this challenge requires a unified effort from the government, policymakers, and society—transcending political differences. Our youth are the future, and their well-being must be our top priority.”

Suggesting several initiatives to combat rising unemployment in J&K, Bukhari said, “A range of initiatives could be implemented to address the growing unemployment in J&K. To begin with, the government must fill vacant posts in various departments. Additionally, daily-wage workers should be regularised to ensure these thousands of young people secure a stable livelihood. Also, initiatives must be taken to address the lack of infrastructure and industrial development. Moreover, the youth must be provided with skill development training to enhance their employability. The central government must be involved in providing avenues to help J&K overcome the unemployment crisis.”
