All India zonal chess, carrom tournament begins in Srinagar
Srinagar, Oct 23: The All India Zonal Chess and Carrom Tournament 2024 kicked off today at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, hosted by the Regional Sports Control Board, Northern Region, Airports Authority of India.
The tournament was inaugurated by the chief guest, Javed Anjum, Director of Srinagar Airport, alongside V.D. Narayan, Secretary General of the International Carrom Federation, and Bharti Narayan, General Secretary of the All India Carrom Federation.
In his opening remarks, the chief guest emphasised the vital role of sports in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and stressed the importance of integrating physical activity into daily routines. The tournament, running from October 23 to 26, will follow a league-cum-knockout format. Six zonal teams, each comprising 17 players (men and women), representing different regions, are competing in the event. The tournament will conclude on October 26, at the SKICC Convention Centre in Srinagar.
