Al-Quran: Umm-ul-Kitab
In a holy verse, it stands affirmed that Allah (SwT) has send the Holy Book—Al-Quran which has been acclaimed as Umm-ul-Kitab (Mother of all Books). The Holy Book needs to be followed in all its forms, in all its shades with utmost belief in every word, in every verse, as none will grasp the message except men with faith and understanding:
‘’He is Who has sent down to thee the Book: in it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning): they are the foundation of the Book: others are not of well-established meaning. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is not of well-established meaning. Seeking discord and searching for its interpretation, but no one knows the meaning except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: ‘’We believe in it, the whole of it from our Lord’’ and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding’’ (3:7)
Where the meaning of Holy Verses is clear, that part of the Holy Book marks the basic and fundamental aspect. And, where the meaning may not be well-established forms an aspect which may be beyond human language to hold in all its nuances, the language here may carry spiritual tunes which none may comprehend except men of understanding. However, the ultimate meaning may be known to Allah (SwT) only, hence the interpretation of such verses may not form a matter of discord. There is no gain in being dogmatic.
Such Holy Verses might have a much wider connotation than could be comprehended. While going through passages of Holy Book where the meaning is not well-established, faith should remain unshaken, belief should hold and the horizons of understanding should widen enough to attain the realization of what may not be ordinarily comprehended, as Allah (SwT) holds the word: none will grasp the Message except men of understanding!
Umm-ul-Kitab holds the ultimate in horizons of universal understanding!
