Aiyza Naz Chib wins Asian Gold for India in roller skating
Srinagar, Dec 2: Aiyza Naz Chib has made history by becoming the first female roller skater from Jammu & Kashmir to win a gold medal for India at the Asian-level Roller Skating Championship, the J&K Sports Council said on Tuesday.
As per a statement, she secured the prestigious medal while representing Team India at the 20th Asian Roller Skating Championship held in Jecheon, South Korea.
Aiyza’s achievement marks a monumental milestone for women’s sports in the region, breaking a 22-year gap since a woman athlete from J&K last medalled at the international level in roller sports. Competing against strong teams from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Australia, and New Zealand, she showcased exceptional skill, precision, and competitive spirit on the Asian stage. Serving as the goalkeeper for Team India (roller hockey), she performed a role that demanded sharp reflexes, strategic awareness, and tremendous mental strength, qualities she displayed throughout the championship.
Her remarkable success comes after years of consistent performance, including a bronze medal at the National Roller Skating Championship in Coimbatore (2024), multiple national-level representations for J&K at premier events across Chandigarh, Bangalore, and Coimbatore, and successful qualification through national team trials in Mohali and Coimbatore.
In recognition of her extraordinary accomplishment, the Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul felicitated Aiyza and commended her dedication and discipline. She said, “Aiyza Naz Chib’s achievement is a landmark moment for women athletes in Jammu & Kashmir. Her gold medal at the Asian Championship stands as a symbol of empowerment, excellence, and the growing sporting culture in the region. We congratulate Aiyza for her exceptional performance, which will inspire countless young athletes across J&K.”
