'Airtel shields 2.3 million users in J&K from online fraud'
Srinagar, June 30: Bharti Airtel has announced a major breakthrough in its efforts to combat rising incidents of online fraud in Jammu and Kashmir. Within just 47 days of launching its AI-powered fraud detection system in the region, the telecom giant has successfully safeguarded over 2.3 million users across the Union Territory.
Enabled automatically for all Airtel mobile and broadband users, the advanced detection system scans links shared via SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, email, and other browsers. The system processes over one billion URLs daily, using real-time threat intelligence to block access to malicious sites in under 100 milliseconds.
For instance, if a user in Srinagar receives a phishing message such as “Your package is delayed. Track it here: [http://www.tracky0urparcell.com,”](http://www.tracky0urparcell.com,”) Airtel’s system immediately scans the link. If deemed harmful, the platform blocks access and redirects the user to a warning page stating: “Blocked! Airtel found this site dangerous.” This instant interception prevents potential fraud before it occurs.
In a statement issued here, Dibyendu Aich, Chief Operating Officer – Jammu & Kashmir, Bharti Airtel, said, “At Airtel, safeguarding our customers from digital fraud remains a top priority. We are proud to bring our AI-powered fraud detection solution to Jammu & Kashmir, offering it completely free of charge. This initiative ensures real-time protection, allowing our customers to experience the digital world with greater confidence and peace of mind.”
Further strengthening its cyber security strategy in the region, Aich recently held a strategic meeting with Dr. Sunil Gupta, Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch (J&K), to explore collaborative efforts in tackling cybercrime and enhancing digital safety.
With Jammu and Kashmir emerging as one of India’s most digitally connected regions, incidents of cyber fraud have surged — particularly in urban centers like Jammu and Srinagar, and towns such as Baramulla and Samba. Fraud attempts range from phishing links and fake delivery messages to deceptive banking alerts. Airtel’s AI-powered solution now acts as a state-wide digital shield, protecting vulnerable users including students, homemakers, senior citizens, and first-time smartphone users.
