Air travel disrupted across north India
New Delhi, May 7: Air travel across northern and western India has been disrupted following the pre-dawn precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
In the aftermath, more than 200 flights have been cancelled and 14 civilian airports temporarily shut due to airspace restrictions, according to government and airline sources.
The affected airports include Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pathankot, Shimla, Dharamshala, Amritsar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Rajkot, where several dozen domestic flights were cancelled and some diverted.
Aviation sources confirmed that airspace restrictions were issued immediately after the strikes began in the early hours of Wednesday, disrupting flight paths and leading to widespread cancellations.
Airports in Bhuj and Rajkot will remain closed to civilian traffic until May 10.
While the situation remains fluid, airlines are coordinating with authorities and issuing frequent travel advisories.
Travellers scheduled to fly to northern and western India are urged to check flight status and airline websites before proceeding to the airport.
Several Indian airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and Alliance Air, have cancelled or rerouted flights to northern and western regions following Operation Sindoor. American Airlines has also suspended select international services from Delhi. Passengers are advised by airlines to check airline websites for updates and travel advisories.
