Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh appointed as Chief of Air Staff
New Delhi, Sep 21: The government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the next Chief of the Air Staff. He will assume the role of Air Chief Marshal from the afternoon of September 30, 2024, succeeding the current Chief, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, who will retire on the same day.
Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh was commissioned into the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot in December 1984. With nearly 40 years of service, he has held numerous command, staff, instructional, and foreign assignments.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, Air Marshal Singh is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying experience on various aircraft. He has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline airbase. As a test pilot, he led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow and served as Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre for the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas.
He has also held key staff positions, including Air Defence Commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Before becoming the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command.
