AIP holds rallies in Shopian, seek votes for its candidate
Shopian, Sep 05: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) on Thursday held a series of rallies in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
During these rallies, the party sought support for its candidate Raja Waheed, who is contesting the polls from the Shopian Assembly seat.
Waheed recently resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after the party decided to field Yawar Ahmad Banday from the seat.
Speaking to reporters, jailed Engineer Rashid’s son Abrar Rashid said that a wave of support for his father surged from north toKashmir to south Kashmir.
Abrar said that his father had not allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“If he had held the hand of BJP, he would not have been languishing in Tihar jail,” Abrar said.
He said that his father had been even representing the people from jail.
Abrar said that he was not doing politics and was merely a volunteer of the party.
“I am not contesting the elections. I hold no post in the party either. I am only canvassing like others and that is my democratic right,” said Abrar.
He said that owing to certain compulsions he had to come out of his home to campaign for the party.
“We never prefer family rule. It is yet to be decided if my uncle will contest polls or not,” Abrar said.
The AIP leaders urged the electorate to vote in favor of AIP candidates for better representation.
