Jammu, Jan 25: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu kicked off its much-anticipated “Sports Week” on Saturday, ahead of its “Institute Day.”

Sports week brought together faculty, students, and staff in a spirited celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and community, AIIMS Jammu spokesperson said.

The week-long event, featuring an array of sports and recreational activities, will culminate in the grand Institute Day celebrations on February 3, 2025.

The Sports Week was officially inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Shakti Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, in the presence of Col Sanjay Garg, Deputy Director (Administration), Dr Raashid Anjum, chairperson of the Sports Committee, Dr Sushant Meinia, member secretary of the Sports Committee, and other faculty members, students, and staff.

The opening ceremony set the stage for an exciting lineup of sporting events such as badminton, chess, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, cricket, and carrom. In his inaugural address, Dr Shakti Gupta highlighted the integral role of sports in fostering resilience, teamwork, and a balanced lifestyle.

He encouraged participants to embrace the competitive spirit and showcase their skills throughout the week.

“The “Sports Week” not only provides a platform for friendly competition but also underscores AIIMS Jammu’s commitment to the holistic development of its community, blending academic excellence with physical and mental well-being. The event paves the way for the upcoming Institute Day, which promises a vibrant mix of cultural, academic, and sports activities,” he said.
