AIIMS Jammu hosts workshop on crime scene recreation, firearm death investigation for J&K Police

Jammu, Nov 30: The Department of Forensic Medicine, AIIMS Jammu organised a workshop titled “After Crime, Scene Recreation and Training in Solving Firearm Death Investigation” the other day.

This first-of-its-kind initiative is aimed at equipping J&K Police officers with advanced skills in crime scene examination and evidence collection to strengthen criminal investigations.

The event was inaugurated by Prof Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Jammu, and Prof Dinesh Rao, Head of the Department (HoD), Forensic Medicine. Senior police officials presided over the workshop, where a total of 100 officers, including 20 DySPs, 25 Inspectors and 60 Sub Inspectors from Jammu, Samba and Udhampur participated.

Prof Rao, HoD, Forensic Medicine, AIIMS Jammu trained the officers on the examination of the crime scene and collection of evidence. He also explained the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for investigating fire-arm deaths.

Prof Rao highlighted the importance of “Bod bags” in shifting the dead from the crime scene and at the same time impressed upon the fact examination of evidence and processing the crime scene and its importance in the prosecution.

The workshop featured practical sessions on SOPs for firearm death investigations and the importance of processing crime scenes.

A notable highlight was the recreation of a real case, the Kishtwar VDGs’ murder, providing valuable insights into investigative methodologies. “This initiative underscores AIIMS Jammu’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and enhancing justice delivery systems in the region,” said AIIMS Jammu spokesperson.
