Ahead of NAAC team visit, KU goes for mock inspection of departments
Srinagar, Mar 25: The mock inspections of different departments at the Kashmir University have begun ahead of the scheduled visit of the NAAC team to the varsity.
A top official told Greater Kashmir that the Vice Chancellor (VC) Kashmir University (KU), Prof. Nilofer Khan has constituted a team of senior professors along with Dean Academic Affairs of the University to conduct the mock inspections ahead of the NAAC team visit.
"The team visits different departments to assess the ground situation and submit the report to the Vice Chancellor. The team has been actually constituted to see if there are any deficiencies in any department which can be plugged till the NAAC team visits the varsity," the official said.
The visit of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was earlier scheduled in November-December month of 2024. However the visit got delayed due to unknown reasons.
"The university has to select three dates for the NAAC team visit. As of now, April 10, Ending April and Second week of May has been selected for NAAC visit. The final date out of the three dates will be selected by the NAAC team for their visit," the official told Greater Kashmir.
Presently, KU is accredited with an A+ grade by the NAAC. The last visit of the NAAC team was held in May 2019 and the accreditation was valid up to May 2024. The fresh NAAC accreditation was supposed to be done immediately after the expiry of the last NAAC accreditation. However, the NAAC visit got delayed for unknown reasons.
In December, University of Jammu (JU) was awarded A++ grade with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.72 by NAAC.
"The latest NAAC grading set the standards high and it has become a challenge for the KU administration to improve its ranking in the fresh NAAC accreditation. We are hopeful of a good score," the KU official told Greater Kashmir.
Currently, the KU is KU on refurbishment spree in view of the upcoming inspection by the NAAC.
According to officials, a lot of money is being spent on painting department buildings to present a rosy picture of the University before the NAAC team.
The NAAC visit is scheduled around April-May, which is when the Vice Chancellor Prof Neelofar Khan's three years tenure is coming to an end.
VC Prof Neelofar Khan has already turned 65, which is considered to be the upper age limit for any State University VC to continue on the coveted position. However, as per the order issued by the Chancellor of J& Universities, her appointment was made for the period of three years.
The NAAC is an autonomous body that assesses and accredits higher education institutions in India. It was formed after recommendations from National Policy on Education (1986), which laid emphasis on upholding the quality of higher education in India.
