Advisory issued, travel plan charted for commuters today
Srinagar, Sep 16: The traffic authorities on Tuesday issued an advisory and charted a traffic plan for the commuters travelling on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Wednesday.
The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has not been fully restored at Tharad, Udhampur.
There was very slow movement on the highway due to intermittent rain, single lane traffic, undulating, and uneven surface of the road at Tharad.
Traffic is managed in a regulated manner at Tharad, Udhampur, due to a single lane of about 250-300 metres. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, and overtaking and wrong lane driving will cause congestion.
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, on Wednesday, only one-way traffic would be permitted for LMVs from Srinagar towards Jammu.
These vehicles would be allowed from the Navyug Tunnel (Qazigund side) between 6 am and 11 am. No LMV or heavy vehicle would be allowed from Jammu, Udhampur, towards Srinagar.
LMVs going towards Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts from Jammu would be allowed from Nagrota, Jammu, between 7 am and 10 am.
LMVs and heavy vehicles coming from Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts towards Jammu would be permitted to move, but these vehicles must cross the Nashri Tunnel before 10 am.
Mughal Road is open for LMVs from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, heavy vehicles would be allowed from the Navyug Tunnel (Qazigund side) towards Jammu after the LMVs tail the Navyug Tunnel and assess the road condition.
TCU Srinagar would liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the heavy vehicles.
Security forces have been advised not to ply against the advisory and traffic plan in view of possible traffic congestion because of the narrow carriageway between Tharad and Balinallah, Marog, and Kishtwar Pathar. On Wednesday, they have been advised to ply from Srinagar towards Jammu after confirming the status of the highway from TCU Ramban.
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting a green signal from NHIDCL, only LMVs would be allowed from both sides - from Anantnag towards Kishtwar and vice versa on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road. These vehicles would be allowed from PP Parana towards Anantnag from 8 am to 4 pm and from PP Daksum towards Kishtwar from 9 am to 3 pm as per the order issued by SDM Chhatroo vide No SDM/C/2025-26/146-53 dated May 16, 2025, and SDM Kokernag vide No SDM/KNG/665-71 dated May 16, 2025.
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting a green signal from the BRO, traffic movement would be allowed in a regulated manner on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road. LMVs followed by heavy vehicles would be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar from 5 am to 10 pm. Similarly, LMVs followed by heavy vehicles would be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. No vehicle would be allowed after the cutoff time. The convoy of the security forces plying from Srinagar to Kargil and vice versa would plan movement in such a manner that civil traffic (both up and down) doesn’t get disturbed.
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting a green signal from road maintenance agencies (GREF), LMVs, passenger and private cars would be allowed from both sides - Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa via Poonch. These vehicles would be allowed from Behramgala, Baffliaz, between 6 am and 5:30 pm, and from Herpora, Shopian, between 5 am and 5 pm as per the advisory issued by District Magistrate Poonch vide No DMP/J/9291-9318 dated August 31, 2025. However, heavy vehicles carrying essential commodities (sixty tyres only) would be allowed from Poonch towards Shopian, and no heavy vehicle would be allowed after 9 am from the Akhnoor checkpoint. Moreover, no heavy vehicles would be allowed from the Herpora checkpoint towards the Mughal Road. TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar would inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut-off timings.
The cut-off timings for passenger LMVs and private cars going towards Srinagar via Mughal Road are Akhnoor 12:30 pm; Bhambla 1:30 pm; Rajouri 3:30 pm; Manjakote 4 pm; Surankote 5 pm, and Behramgala 5:30 pm.
