Anantnag, Dec 19: In a landmark achievement, the Principal and Dean of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, Dr Rukhsana Najeeb Thursday inaugurated the installation of advanced hysteroscopic equipment at the Maternal and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) Sherbagh, an associated hospital of GMC Anantnag.

Speaking on the significance of this development, Professor Najeeb highlighted that the introduction of the hysteroscope is a major step forward in providing advanced healthcare technology to the people of the region.

“This equipment enables gynecologists to directly visualise the uterine cavity and perform both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in a single session,” she said.

Prof Najeeb, who is herself critical care specialist- anesthesiologist personally intubated the first patient undergoing a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy using the newly installed equipment

The Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Dr Syed Nawaz, thanked the Principal for her unwavering dedication to improving healthcare services, particularly in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.

“The hysteroscope would revolutionise the management of intrauterine conditions such as polyps, submucosal fibroids, uterine septae, misplaced intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs), tubal canalizations, and more,” he said.

Dr Nawaz also revealed that the procedure is minimally invasive, painless, and bloodless, leaving no scars.

“It significantly reduces procedure time and hospital stays compared to traditional open surgeries,” he said.

Dr Nawaz further said that the equipment is especially beneficial for diagnosing and treating infertility and abnormal uterine bleeding.

The surgical team for the milestone procedure included Dr Syed Nawaz, Dr Tanzeela Nazir, Dr Nighat, Dr Ufaque, Dr Shahida Kaunsar, Dr Qurat-ul-Ain, Dr Razia, and paramedical staff- Zubair, Aamir, Aslam, and Aaqib.

The anesthesia team, led by Dr Rukhsana Najeeb, comprised Dr Riyaz Malik, Dr Hilal, paramedics Abid, and Mohd Rafeeq.

Logistic support was provided by Deputy Medical Superintendent MCCH Dr Shahid Hussain and team members Adil, Suhail, Layeek, M A Sheikh , and Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh.

Head of the pediatric unit of the hospital, Dr Showkat Hussain said that GMC Anantnag was committed to advancing medical care and ensuring state-of-the-art facilities for the local population.
