ADGP L&O promises peaceful polls

Srinagar, Aug 27: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order (L&O) and State Police Nodal Officer (SPNO) Vijay Kumar Tuesday promised comprehensive security measures to contribute to a peaceful and successful election.

Chairing a meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to discuss and finalise security arrangements across J&K in preparation for the upcoming elections, Kumar expressed confidence that the comprehensive security measures discussed during the meeting will contribute to a peaceful and successful election.

ADGP Kumar emphasised the importance of meticulous planning and execution to uphold the integrity of the elections.

Briefing the officers, he said, “We are committed to ensuring that every aspect of the electoral process is handled with utmost professionalism and efficiency.”

Kumar emphasised the importance of maintaining law and order during the election period and outlined the strategic deployment of forces to ensure the peaceful conduct of elections.

He urged all the participating officers to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing any potential threats from the anti-national elements.

The ADGP L&O also advised the officers to brief the soldiers on the strict adherence to the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and reiterated that any violation of the code would be dealt with strictly to ensure a fair and impartial election process.

The meeting was attended by senior Police and security force officers across J&K including ADGP Jammu Zone Anand Jain, IG CRPF (KOS) G K Verma, IGP Kashmir Zone Vidhi Kumar Birdi, all range DIGs of J&K including DIG North Kashmir Range Maqsood-ul-Zaman, DIG South Kashmir Range Javid Iqbal Matoo, DIG Central Kashmir Range Srinagar Rajiv Omprakash, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Tejinder Singh, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Rayees Muhammad Bhat, DIG Doda-Kishtwar Range Shridhar Patil, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG SSB Imtiaz Ismail Parry, DIG CRPF South Srinagar Sudheer Kumar, DIG CRPF North Srinagar Parveen Kumar Singh, all district SSPs including Police Districts of J&K along with district Nodal Officers of CAPFs, SSP PCR Kashmir, and other officers.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around the deployment of security forces, coordination with CAPFs, and logistical arrangements for their accommodation and operations.

The issue related to providing adequate transport facilities for incoming CAPF companies was also discussed owing to high demand.

ADGP Jammu Zone and IGP Kashmir both stressed the RTO Kashmir and GM SRTC to liaison with the SRTCs outside J&K to ensure smooth and hassle-free mobility to the CAPFs during the elections.

IGP Kashmir emphasised all the district SSPs of Kashmir Zone to follow the legal procedures strictly, pre-empt the situation, and respond in a calculated manner adhering to all the laid down Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

In addition, the logistic arrangements of incoming Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were also discussed in detail to ensure the safe and smooth induction of CAPF companies.

The discussions were aimed at coordinating security measures to ensure the safe and efficient conduct of electoral processes.

All district SSPs and CAPF officers gave their feedback and appraised the chair regarding the arrangements put in place in their respective areas of responsibility.
