ADGP Armed J&K reviews plans for Inter-Battalion & Inter-Zone sports meet 2025
Jammu, Apr 10: In a bid to boost sports culture and talent identification within the police force, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed J&K, Anand Jain (IPS), chaired a high-level preparatory meeting to finalise arrangements for the upcoming Inter-Battalion and Inter-Zone Sports Meet–2025.
As per a statement issued on Thursday, scheduled to be held in Jammu from April 21 to 30, the mega event is expected to witness participation from nearly 2,000 athletes across various wings of the J&K Police.
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies for both the events will be held on April 21st, 2025, and April 25th, 2025, for the Inter-Battalion Sports Meet, and on April 27th and April 30th, 2025, for the Inter-Zone Sports Meet.
In his address, the ADGP Armed emphasised the significance of organising these sports events, which are part of the J&K Police’s Annual Sports Calendar.
He highlighted that such events are designed to identify and select talented athletes from all wings of the J&K Police to represent the force at state and national-level competitions as part of the J&K Police Central Sports Team.
The sports events will be held across various disciplines, including basketball, football, handball, hockey, kabaddi, volleyball, tug of war, athletics (shot put, javelin throw, discus throw, long jump and high jump), shooting, badminton, table tennis, wushu, weightlifting, fencing, archery, swimming, wrestling, boxing, judo, bodybuilding, powerlifting, pencak silat, taekwondo, and arm wrestling.
These events will be organised in both men's and women's categories across different Zones: Armed, SDRF/HG, Training, and INTELSECT (which includes CID, Crime, Telecom, Traffic, Security, Railways, and SSG).
It is anticipated that 1,500 to 2,000 players, including Gazetted Officers in the GOs event, will compete across various games during the sports meet.
The ADGP further stated that the primary objective of organising such events is to promote sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir and provide a platform for budding athletes. These events play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing hidden sports talent within the force.
Earlier, Kuldeep Hondoo, DySP Sports APHQ, delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the formation of various committees and sub-committees responsible for ensuring the successful organisation of the event.
The meeting was attended by several senior officers, including Vivek Gupta, IPS, IGP Railways J&K; Suliman Choudhary, IPS, IGP Traffic/Tech Service; Sarah Rizvi, IPS, DIG IR Jammu; Rashmi Wazir, IPS, DIG Security J&K; Sandeep Wazir, IPS, AIG Personnel PHQ; Rajesh Kumar Sharma, IPS, SSP Security Jammu; Dalip Kumar, SO to ADGP Armed J&K; Manoj Pandita, SSP, AIG Training/Communication, PHQ; Dr Minakshi Kotwal, Medical Superintendent, Police Hospital Jammu; and all Commanding Officers (COs) of Jammu City-based Battalions and Srinagar City-based Commandants through VC, among other officers.
