Addressing the Growing Drug Crisis
Drug Addiction is a situation when a person get addicted with the substances which can alter their mood and can control their Central Nervous system (CNS).Drug Addiction can be defined as a substance abuse and a situation when a person gets addicted to natural or synthetic drugs.Drugs can be defined in two major categories natural and synthetic drugs natural generally refers to the drugs obtained from plant parts such as stem and leaves or synthetic whereas synthetic drugs are being synthesised at laboratories to increase their addictive nature and stimulating effects which makes its far more dangerous than natural drugs,although both of them are harmful for the health of consumer.It has become a sign of danger and have targeted many youngsters especially teenagers.
The word drug has latin origin, ‘droog’ which means dry.In the recent times we are familiar with it and many of us have lost their lives in the same. The addicted individuals not only affect their own lifestyle but they become unbearable for their parents as well as for the whole society.The addict first starts his addiction journey from his own money then demands more money from parents, relatives or friends and when they don't assist their demand so far then they can harm.
Many addicts which don't have sophisticated financial conditions start petty crimes such as theft,harassment etc then become involved in major crimes for the sake of money. As drug and addiction becomes far more destructive for society.
Drug Addiction and the whole scenario
Addiction of drugs leads to various other crimes and habits and due to such increase in tendency as a person persists to increase his dosage and the tendency process for calmness, relief and to feel independent irrespective of family or academic burdens or other hurdles. By the mean time,many individuals belonging to academic paths have got addicted and many such individuals have lost their lives in case of increasing day by day tendency.A person tends to increase the dosage as it can alter the mood and provide relief and calmness feelings to an addict and many are using it for the same purpose as we are unable to solve many problems related to our daily life.Besides this,there are many natural drugs such as Opioids,cannabis,cocaine etc and some synthetic drugs also known as psychoactive drugs and other medical drugs easily available at chemist shops,and these are being used widely in maximum amount.
According to above mentioned report by UNODC and MSJE,there is a natural drugs which is being used widely in the amount of consumption after Alcohol.In some decades,the surge in Drug addiction has been recorded with the involvement of individuals at early ages. It is a situation which has destroyed many homes and establishments irregarding of their socio-economic background. Although it affects the economically challenged families more than others.
It doesn't take a reason for addiction but there are many ways and precautionary measures needed to opt to make society safe.However, according to a joint survey in 2004, by the Ministry of social justice and empowerment and United Nations offices of drugs and control (UNODC) releases the data on patterns and trends of drug abuse in India and it showed that the 10 million people are addicted to alcohol, and 2.3 million to cannabis and 0.5 million opiates.
Moreover,Cannabis being a natural drug substrate is a flowering part of the plant,(Cannabis sativa).It is also known as ganja and weed and generally consumed by the method of smoking.Meanwhile, the whole current trend of using weed or ganja has prolonged historical background relying on United states of america since 1600’s but after various prohibitions and restriction by the legal and drugs authorities, it has been labelled as poison and ilicit.However,consumption of natural opioids has been historical background for the use of addictive substance for the purpose of pleasure and other different medicinal treatment in many civilisations.
However,in many India states,being Ganja a illegal cultivation,have cultivated the plant inside their houses for the purpose of smoking, consuming or selling.Moreover, in 2019,according to an annual report of the International Narcotics Control Board noted that "India is among those countries worldwide with the greatest extent of illicit cannabis cultivation and production.”
