Jammu, Feb 8: General Officer Commanding (GOC) 16 Corps , Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva, has acknowledged the contribution of the Gujjar and Bakarwal community in maintaining peace and assured them that army is always with them.

According to a press note, he also paid tributes to the gallant population of Naushera who fought alongside the Indian Army in 1947-48 Indo-Pak war. The GOC was speaking at “ Naushera Day”. Indian Army celebrated 76th “Naushera Day” commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Nk Jadunath Singh, PVC in the battle of Naushera.

“It was the fiercest battle in 1947-48 Indo-Pak War in Naushera Sector of Rajouri District in Jammu and Kashmir. The battle of Naushera is unique wherein the residents fought alongwith Army with little disregard to their own life or property to save the motherland. As a tribute to locals contribution, the event was celebrated with residents, ESM and Civil administration authorities.” the press release said.

In the run up to “Naushera Day Celebrations” Indian Army conducted various events to include multi specialty medical camp wherein 535 locals were treated, artificial limbs camp which provided 54 artificial limbs, 47 wheel chair and crutches, cross country run for youth population, cricket tournament, professional and vocational courses.

Maj Gen Gaurav Rishi, SC, SM, GOC 25 Inf Div, civil and military officials laid wreaths at Veer Bhoomi in remembrance of Nk Jadunath Singh, PVC who made supreme sacrifice in service to the nation. The event was followed by a cultural fest by schools of Naushera. GOC White Knight Corps awarded the school children and the teachers for their enthusiasm and active participation. He also interacted with people of Naushera and ESMs, wherein he felicitated decorated soldiers, veer naris and veterans from Naushera town and nearby border villages.
