Jammu, Nov 7: Crime Branch (Economic Offences Wing) Jammu arrested an accused absconding in a case of cheating for the last three months and produced him before the court of Sub Judge, Poonch on Friday.

The absconder Fayaz Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, resident of Chadoora, Budgam involved in case FIR No 110/2023 U/S 419, 420, 120-B IPC, has been remanded to judicial custody.

According to a spokesperson of Crime Branch, Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Jammu, in 2023, an FIR was registered on the written complaint received from one Javaid Iqbal of Poonch.

A charge sheet was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Poonch against the accused on October 28, 2025. He cheated the complainant for an amount of Rs 4,20,000 on the pretext of providing a government job as Panchayat Accountant through JKSSB.

“During the course of investigation, it came to fore that, earlier two separate cases were registered against the accused Fayaz Ahmed Bhat viz., FIR No 22/2022 U/S 420, 120-B IPC R/W section 5(2) PC Act at Police Station Crime Branch Jammu, challaned before the court of Additional District and Session Judge Rajouri on November 2, 2023 and FIR No 33/2022 U/S 420 IPC also at Police Station Crime Branch Jammu which was under investigation,” the spokesperson said.

To apprehend the absconder, a special team was constituted by Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu led by DySP Aakash Kohli along with Head Constables Roop Lal and Girdhari Lal. The team had been tracking the accused for the past three months and finally succeeded in arresting him from Jammu, the spokesperson said. “Crime Branch Jammu reiterates its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public administration and to bring all those involved in economic offences to justice,” spokesperson said.
