Jammu, Dec 17: Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tuesday blocked ever-busy main Tawi bridge while holding a sit-in protest against, what they alleged, “blatant discrimination against Dogri, Hindi and Sanskrit languages by National Conference government while advertising 575 posts of 10 2 lecturers.”

Protesting students were referring to recruitment notification issued by J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC) on November 12, 2024 after a gap of decade or so.

“They advertised posts for even Arabic, Persian lecturers but simply ignored Hindi, Sanskrit and other regional languages including Dogri. Our protest is against the NC government and the Education Minister as they are promoting foreign languages at the cost of our own languages. We are not opposing other languages but this is a question of our identity,” a woman protester alleged.

“None is finding it strange that there are 46 posts advertised for Urdu but not even a single post is there for Dogri, Hindi and Sanskrit. We seek justice. They are giving preference to subjects and languages which cater to demands in Kashmir and brazenly ignoring Jammu region and then they talk about neutrality and regional parity. Is it not injustice with the Jammu region?” another protester, joining the cause, asked while responding to media queries.
