Srinagar, Jan 04: Amid the reports of warm wind observed in Ahlan Gadol village of south Kashmir's Anantnag district, the MeT department said there was possibility of the warm wind coming from the south side given the weather forecast predicted by the department.

Talking to Greater Kashmir Director MeT department Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmad said that it was possible to receive warm winds in Pir Panjal and other areas as the wind was blowing from the south direction.

"The wind coming from the North direction remains cold and dry while the wind coming from south direction is relatively warm and moist. Given the prediction of western disturbance, the warm wind is expected. This can be followed by the rainfall or snowfall as already predicted by the weather department," Director MeT said.

Meanwhile, an independent weather organisation- Kashmir Weather Watch said that a sudden warm spell just before heavy snowfall was normal.

"This happens due to Western Disturbances, which bring moisture-laden winds that temporarily raise temperatures. Warm air holds more moisture, and as it cools, it results in significant snowfall," it said.

It said the unique geography of Valley also traps warm air before cold conditions take over.

"So, if it feels unusually warm, prepare for a heavy snowstorm soon! Stay safe and stock up on essentials," it said.
