Abi Guzar residents protest against shortage of drinking water
Srinagar, Oct 15: The residents of Abi Guzar area staged protest on Tuesday to register their resentment against shortage of drinking water supply from last several months.
Scores of these residents including women and elderly gathered outside the PHE Department office at Exchange Road to press for resolution of their demands.
The residents said that they are suffering for last many months. They said the situation got worse in past few weeks and they don’t have even a drop of water to drink or cook.
“We used to have a proper supply, but for last few months now, there has been a lack of water supply in our area. We are unable to cook food for our families amid the lack of water. This is why we were forced to hit roads. I am a patient suffering from diabetes and other ailments, and I am here on the road to protest. We are not able to make ablution due to lack of water even in local masjid. Many times, my children have gone hungry because I had no water to cook,” a female protester said.
The locals said that they are continuously protesting, but officials are only making “false promises.” They said patients, children, and elderly in the area are suffering immensely.
“The officials have been saying they will fix the issue in a day and since then months have passed,” Mohammad Amir, another protester said.
The residents appealed to the concerned officials to address the issue so that they don’t suffer further.
