Abi Guzar residents decry defunct drainage system

Srinagar, Nov 5: Residents of Abi Guzar area of Lal Chowk have complained of a defunct drainage system in the area.

A delegation from the area said the drainage system constructed several years ago near masjid has been completely chocked in the absence of cleaning.

“Overflowing sewage from the blocked drainage hampers the movement of people. Pungent smell emanating from the drain has made our lives miserable,” a resident rued. “There is a risk of outbreak of diseases due to the accumulation of sewage near houses. We many times took up the matter with SMC authorities, but no action was taken. We make a fervent appeal to the SMC Commissioner to direct the concerned officials to look into the matter and take remedial measures,” they added.
