Rajouri, Dec 2: Nine years after 60 people lost their lives in a tragic bus mishap on Lam road in Rajouri’s Nowshera sub division, the government has come out of slumber and kick-started work for construction of a new bridge at Jhambir nallah.

The bridge called as Jhambir bridge on Thalka-Lam road has a dreadful story attached with it which is of September 4 , 2014 bus tragedy in which a bus carrying the “baraat” of Sukhwinder Singh of Raipur Bhata got washed away in flash flood in Jhambir Nallah. Sixty people had lost their lives who included bride-groom. Bodies of half a dozen deceased could not be recovered.

Low height of bridge was being considered as a prime cause of the accident as flood water used to flow over the bridge. Demand for up-gradation of this bridge was being put forth by locals for long but for no result.

Meanwhile, the government has now finally come out of slumber kick-starting work for construction of a new heighted bridge over Jhambir Nallah.

The construction of the bridge, which will extend over a length of 60 meters, will be executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), officials said adding that the estimated cost of the project is Rs 5.07 crores, reflecting the commitment of the government to invest in crucial infrastructure projects that benefit the local communities.
