9-year-old Usman Parvaiz overcomes disability, shines in Floorball team’s win
Pulwama, Jan 9: 9-year-old Usman Parvaiz, a specially-abled boy from Qasbayar, village in south Kashmir's Pulwama district with hearing and speech disability, has shined with a remarkable performance at the 18th Floorball Championship in Andhra Pradesh.
Emerging out to be an inspirational tale of perseverance, Usman’s dedication and passion for the game, despite his challenges have inspired the entire community, earning him accolades from his family and region’s Chief Minister.
"The entire village is over the moon about his feat," said Parvaiz Ahmad, father of Usman Parvaiz.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday too congratulated the entire team while acknowledging the role of Usman in achieving the feat.
"Congratulations to the Pulwama Under-12 Floor Ball team for securing the silver medal in the 18th Floor Ball Championship held in Andhra Pradesh. Special recognition goes to Usman Parvaiz, a nine-year-old boy, whose role in achieving this feat is truly commendable.
Despite his disability, he did not let it hinder him from achieving success. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire team and wish them continued success in their future endeavours,” Chief Minister posted on his social media handles.
Usman, a specially abled boy from the idyllic village of Qasbayar, located a short drive away from south Kashmir's Pulwama town, was part of the under-12 Pulwama Floorball team that clinched a silver medal in the 18th Floorball Championship held in Andhra Pradesh.
9-year-old Usman, who is deaf-mute, has a deep passion for the game. He expresses his excitement over his team’s win with gestures and animated facial expressions.
"He has a strong penchant for the game, and we will encourage him to continue playing," said his father.
Tousef Ashraf Bhat, the coach of Usman, told Greater Kashmir that he ( Usman) played both martial arts and floorball and participated in two national level tournaments.
"In one, he was named the best player, and in another, he bagged a silver medal," he said.
Touseef runs Sadaat National Sports Club in Rajpora and Qasbayar. Besides floorball, he also trains in martial arts and Taekwondo. Scores of local youth currently receive training at these clubs.
"I hope many more players will play at national and bring laurels to our region," said Touseef.
