9 vehicles involved in illegal mining, transportation of mineral seized in Handwara: Police
Srinagar, Jun 27: Police in Handwara seized nine tractors from various locations across the Handwara Police district for their involvement in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals on Friday.
A statement of J&K Police issued here said that acting on specific inputs, Police teams from different police stations launched coordinated enforcement drives.
During the operations, the vehicles were found transporting minerals without valid documentation, in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the violators as per the relevant provisions of the law.
Police are committed to taking action against violators by extracting minerals illegally to the detriment of people's health, ecology, and the revenue of the government.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood.
