Ramban, June 9: Ramban Police has thwarted eight animal smuggling attempts arrested eight persons and rescued 87 animals at Chanderkote, Ramban Ramsu and Banihal on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway.

Police sources said a Police team of Police Station Chanderkote led by SHO Chanderkote intercepted a vehicle, during checking seven bovines were found laden inside vehicles, which were tied cruelly and were being transported illegally. One person was arrested.

Similarly, SHO Ramban also intercepted one vehicle and during checking seven bovines were found laden inside the vehicle which were tied cruelly and were being transported illegally. One person was arrested.

In another instance, the Police team of Police Station Ramsoo headed by SHO Ramsoo during vehicle checking duty intercepted four vehicles during checking 48 bovines were found laden in these vehicles which were tied cruelly and were being transported illegally. Four persons were arrested.

In another instance, the Police Party of Police Station Banihal led by SHO Banihal intercepted one person who was taking 16 bovines on foot towards Kashmir without permission of competent authority.

In another instance, the Police Party of PS Dharamkund headed by SHO Dharamkund intercepted a vehicle during checking nine bovines were found laden inside the vehicle which was tied cruelly and was being transported illegally towards Kashmir. One person was arrested.

Police said seven vehicles involved in the commission of the offence were seized.

Police have registered case FIR No. 87/2024 registered at PS Chanderkote, FIR No. 132/2024 at PS Ramban, FIR Nos. 75/76/77/79 of 2024 were registered at Police Station Ramsoo, FIR No.99 of 2024 at Police Station Banihal and FIR No.29 of 2024 registered at Police Station Dharamkund under relevant sections of law.
