81 killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza in 24 hours
New Delhi, Jun 29: At least 81 Palestinians have been killed and more than 400 injured in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza-run health ministry, as the Israeli military continues its offensive in the territory, reports BBC.
According to the BBC, the strikes included an attack near the Palestine Stadium in Gaza City, where tents sheltering displaced families had been set up.
At least 11 people, including children, were killed in that strike. Additional casualties were reported in al-Mawasi and the Tuffah neighbourhoods, where entire families, including children, died in airstrikes on apartments and temporary shelters. The Israeli military said it had targeted individuals posing a threat to its forces and claimed it had taken precautions to avoid civilian casualties. It confirmed the killing of a senior Hamas commander, Hakham Muhammad Issa al-Issa, in a strike in Gaza City on Friday. He was described as a key figure in the planning of the October 7 attack on Israel. The strikes come as international efforts to broker a new ceasefire and hostage exchange deal continue.
