Jammu, Apr 27: Police have filed a chargesheet before Sub Judge Court Jammu against eight arrested accused in the Jewel Chowk murder case and have also sought trial in absentia for three absconding accused.

The Police Station Nowabad, Jammu, in the ongoing investigation of the Jewel Chowk murder incident, produced the chargesheet in case FIR No 14/2025 under Sections 103(1), 49, 111(2)(a), 304 BNS & 3/4/25 Arms Act before the Sub Judge Court Jammu on April 26, 2025.

The chargesheet has been filed against eight arrested accused viz., Harsh Singh alias Banta, son of Ramesh Singh, resident of Bikram Chowk, Jammu; Abhey Partap Singh alias Mui, son of Karan Singh, resident of Nai Basti, Jammu; Mithun Kumar, son of Munshi Ram, resident of Dhoon, tehsil and district Jammu; Shiv Kumar alias Koda, son of Madan Lal, resident of Sharika Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu; Amit Kumar alias Chidi, son of Rattan Lal, resident of Gole Panjpeer, Talab Tillo, Jammu; Arun Kumar, son of Rajesh Kumar, resident of Bikram Chowk, Jammu; Yudhvir Singh, son of Virdev Singh, resident of Mandi Sangwali, tehsil and district Samba and Ruhan Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmed Mughal, resident of Gool, district Ramban; currently residing at Asrarabad, Sidhra, Jammu.

Additionally, the police have requested the court to initiate a trial in absentia for three absconding accused persons ñ Vikas Slathia alias Vicky Khouff alias Vicky, son of Ravinder Singh, resident of Mandi Gharota, Gurha Slathia, at present Gurha Morh, Vijaypur, district Samba; Vikramjeet Singh, son of Malkit Singh, resident of Fatehpur, Chabbal Road, Amritsar, Punjab and Bodh Raj alias Guggi, son of Som Dutt, resident of Shahzadpur, tehsil Ramgarh, district Samba.

A Police spokesperson said that in addition, a separate chargesheet is being prepared to be filed next week before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Jammu against two juveniles involved in the case.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted by SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS), under the leadership of Inspector Deepak Pathania, SHO Police Station Nowabad. It also comprised Inspector Vikas; Inspector Varuneshwar Singh; PSI Aziz Tariq; PSI Vikram Manhas; PSI Irshad Ahmed; PSI Paramjeet Singh; HC Jaipal Singh and HC Jehangir Khan.

ìThe SIT functioned under the supervision of DySP Police Component Jammu, Rohit Chadgal and overall supervision of Kameshwar Puri, SP Police Component Jammu. The investigation team worked tirelessly, conducting extensive raids across Jammu and Kashmir; Punjab; Haryana; Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to apprehend the accused and collect crucial evidence,î the spokesperson said.

The investigation resulted in the seizure of three vehicles, four pistols, several magazines and ammunition, and two sharp-edged weapons from various locations associated with the accused. ìIn total, the role of 13 accused persons has surfaced so far during the investigation of this case. The investigation remains ongoing, with Jammu Police committed to giving justice to the victim and ensuring public safety,î the Police spokesperson said.
